Carl Edwards Of Asbury Park, NJ passed away at home on February 15, 2024. He was born to Rufus Edwards, Sr and Eula Mae Edwards on June 4, 1948 at Fickens Hospital in Neptune, NJ. Also born to this union was Carl's twin sister Carolyn Edwards-Richardson, and other siblings Rufus Edwards, Jr, James Edwards and Gwendolyn Edwards.
Carl was educated in the Neptune School System and worked at Bay Discounters Furniture in Bradley Beach and then in Asbury Park. Afterwards, Carl began working at Johnson's Restaurant and Equipment Store all the way up into his seventies.
Carl met Esther Manning-Taylor in the 1960s and he became the stepfather to her children Edward, Ronald, Tyrone, Donnie, Veronica, Tisha and Tania. When Esther passed in 1999, Carl still remained with the Taylor family for decades afterwards. Carl then met Margie Oxner and the two married in 2008. Carl became the stepfather to Margie's three children George, Sandra and Nkenge. Although Carl remarried, he and Margie remained close to Esther's family until both of their deaths.
Carl attended church at Philemon Baptist in Asbury Park and Salem Baptist in Long Branch and was also an ordained Minister.
Carl was predeceased by his parents Rufus and Eula Mae Edwards, his sister Gwendolyn Edwards, his brothers James and Rufus Edwards, his first love, Esther Taylor and the love of his life, his wife, Margie Edwards and his nephew Jamar Cagle.
He leaves behind his only living sibling, his twin sister Carolyn Edwards-Richardson, his nieces & nephews: Darlene, Pam, Kim, Bari, Gena, Tenisha, Michelle, Wendy, James, Marc, Jason, Michael and LaBaron, his sister-in-laws Sylvia, Denise, Thelma, Veronica, Ernestine, Jill, Frances and Charlene and a host of great nieces and nephews.
Although he didn't have any biological children he had extended family. In addition to the stepchildren he had with Esther and Margie, he was also the grandfather to their children: Chaquetta (who was his right hand, errand runner and caregiver), Daiquan, Selina, Tyrone, I, Tyrone, Jr, Edward, Reanna, Chevez, Diron, Erica, Sadiqua, Ny'Zhere, Naziyah, Aaliyah, Alana and Terrell.
A memorial service will be held at 3pm on March 2, 2024 located at Friendship Baptist Church, 929 Mattison Ave, Asbury Park, NJ 07712. The immediate family has also extended an invitation that everyone is invited back to Ridge Court Social for food and refreshment located at 30 Ridge Ave, Tinton Falls, NJ 07753 following the services at church.
