Many of us knew Carl Gailey, some of us did not. We lost Carl to the good Lord the other evening. He was 77 years old. Those 77 years encompassed a lot of living and a good part of it was spent with AFTAC. Carl was truly one of the "old-timers". It's difficult to keep this brief, but I'll try in hopes that many people will read it.
He was one of those individuals that knew what he wanted to do and then did it, most often with excellent results. He could be considered a quiet person but when he had to say something to you, you knew you'd been talked to. I know from working with him, that when he suggested something, he was usually right. When you did something and it was wrong, he always gave you a smile followed by, "Didn't I tell you so?"
Here's a few positive words that suit Carl:
Intelligent - Sometimes one might wonder about this trait, but he was seldom wrong.
Compassionate - Except when you made a dumb mistake.
Congenial - Friendly to a fault.
Compromising - When he didn't feel he had the answer, he was always willing to listen.
Frugal - Especially when spending the organization's money.
Easy to laugh - But you had to look close to see it.
There are so many more attributes that I could add, but there just isn't enough room here. Let your mind wander for a moment and think about a guy that you'd like to know and work with......that would be Carl.
He will be dearly missed by a great many people.
Respectfully,
Frank & Edna Calenda, Friends

A 'Big Man' has left our lives. We served with Carl first remembering him visiting our Det in Korea in Dec, 1970. We had to put him up in one of those infamous Army Quonset huts with their equally infamous pot-belly stoves! So, Carl and I introduced each other over coal and stoking a fire into existence. I never wanted to ask him how much sleep he got that night!!! Later he was our neighbor 'right around the corner' in Satellite Beach. We will hurt when we recall he's not here anymore.

What a wonderful guy. I have known and worked with Carl for years and years and his devotion to Maime and the Alumni is above reproach. He was a friend and is still considered a friend and I hope to see him in the future. Carl, rest because you have earned it. We will miss you and we honor you! What a guy!
