Mr. Carl Lee Garner, age 79, of Cumming, Georgia made his peaceful passing on September 12, 2024. Dear friends repeatedly comment that he was the kindest, most generous man they’d ever known. The night before his crossing, Carl delivered meals to elderly members of his church. This epitomizes the servant’s heart that Carl demonstrated throughout his life.
Carl was born into the Silver City Community of Forsyth County in 1944. He was born into a large family with hard-working, farming parents and 11 siblings. He graduated from Forsyth County High School in 1962. He met the love of his life, Wanda, soon after, and they shared 60 wonderful years of marriage. Carl was a mail carrier in the Atlanta area for 43 years, and the post office hasn’t been the same since he retired. He then picked up his second, preferred career of grandchildren babysitter. Carl was a devoted member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and held many other roles, most recently leading the Sharing Ministry. Carl was a follower of Jesus, not just by his words, but by his deeds. To watch his life was to see how Jesus lived his, serving and loving others more than himself. Carl was also a very funny guy, often sharing jokes and making everyone around him smile. Carl never met a stranger, never had anything but encouragement to share, and generously gave of his time and resources.
Carl is survived by his loving wife, Wanda Castleberry Garner, son Jeff and Gena Garner, daughter Julie and Kent Townley, and grandchildren Sam Garner and Aspen and Lily Townley. He is also survived by sisters Lecy and Morris Brunson, Gladys and Donald Waldrip, brother Dan and Cindy Garner, and sister in-law Lettie Garner. His other adoring in-laws include Phil Castleberry, Linda and Mikel Evans, Donny and Beth Castleberry, Buddy and Susan Castleberry, Earl and Rita Castleberry, Cecil and Gail Castleberry, Edna and Danny Orr, Patti and Ray Carroll. Carl has an enormous number of nieces, nephews, and cousins who dearly love him. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Gober and Faye Garner, parents-in-law Warren G and Mildred Castleberry, siblings John and Leona Garner, Bonnie and Richard Cramer, Raymond and Grace Garner, Charles Garner, Edwin and Lois Garner, and numerous other relatives.
