Age 80, has Gone Fishin’ on January 31, 2026. Born on July 4, 1945, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Carl Grundhauser II and Olive Tew. Carl always appreciated that so many people celebrated his birthday each year with fireworks.

Carl served in the United States Navy from 1962–1968 in radio operations and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He spent 35 years at 3M, where his greatest professional achievement was creating a searchable product database long before such systems were commonplace. That work earned him an Excellence Award.

On March 25, 1977, Carl met his wife, Rita Joyce, and they spent 42 years together. Carl spent decades fishing on Mille Lacs Lake, though he never quite out-fished his wife, Rita, despite taking full credit for putting her on the right spot. He was happiest with a good-sized walleye in the boat or a winning pull tab in his hand.

Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Joyce; and his parents, Carl Grundhauser II and Olive Tew.

He is survived by daughter, Patrice Grundhauser, son, Robert Grundhauser, and daughter, Chriss (Meredith) Joyce; and grandsons, Andrew Grundhauser and Oliver Joyce.

A graveside service will be held 10:30 AM Monday, February 23 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, 7601 34th Ave S., Mpls, where he will be laid to rest with military honors.  Please meet at Assembly Area #3 by 10:15 AM.

In lieu of flowers, Carl would want you to buy a lottery ticket because “You can’t take it with you.”
