Something I will always remember about Carl:
1. In the summer of 1961, the very first year of the South Beach Little League, I coached the Ocosta team after my last year at GHC. Carl volunteered to umpire all of our games. He did so for all three years I coached the team. I don't think he missed umpiring a game (including practice games). He did so free of charge. What a generous thing to do, and at a very young age.

Carl and I had a lot of strange adventures growing up. I spent a lot of time at his parents house in OCOSTA going to school. His Mom was a Den Mother for our Cub Scout Troop. Later he and I would go to Elma or Raymond and play golf or just ding around together. He was always a kick to be with. Last time I saw him was in Aberdeen, which was the the last time I saw him, that was 9 years ago. Our lives ran parallel in that he became a Transit Driver while I retired from WSDOT. My life was always better with him in it.
