Carl Hilberg Obituary

CARL ERNEST HILBERG
April 16, 1932 ˜ August 16, 2024

Carl E. Hilberg was born April 16, 1932, in Vancouver, WA, to Carl A. and Lillie Egger Hilberg and passed away Aug. 16, 2024, in Baker City, OR, at the age of 92.
Carl raised his children in Vancouver, WA, worked as a Teamster truck driver and retired to Baker City, OR, in 1994.
He was a Harley man, riding his first Harley Davidson Panhead at age 15. Carl and Jan traveled much of the country on a bike including a trip to Sturgis, and he retired his Harley at age 88. He was always smiling, known for his quick wit, and a joke with a gleam in his eye. Carl loved animals, especially dogs, the current being his beloved Miss Kitty. He enjoyed a good drink; Heidelberg and Black Velvet, and kept a well-manicured yard. He restored several antique tractors and a 1914 Model T with his wife, Jan. They participated in parades with the Model T and the 1930 McCormick Deering.
Carl is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Jan; Miss Kitty; sister, Maybelle Lentell (95); brother, Bob Hilberg (89); his children, Dennis, Brian, and Sally; grandchildren, Geoffrey, DC (Dennis Carl), Zachary, Mark and Olivia; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and daughter, Jan.
A memorial service will be planned at a later date. A special thank you to Officers Parsons and Powell and the EMT team for their quick response.

I met Carl in attendance of the old Union High school, and later renewed friendship with him as a client to my Barber shop until his move to Baker City. I too enjoyed his wit and friendly demeaner. Sincere condolences to the family.

I first met Carl and his brother Bob when I was 5 years old. They were the closest neighbors we had when my folks bought the 10 acre farm. Our relationship continued on even through when Carl and my sister Patty got married. I even helped them when their first baby (Dennis) was born. We spent a lot of time together, working on the farm and riding motorcycles. Unfortune , our relationship drifted away when their marriage fell apart and Carl moved away. Many memories.
