Carl R. Irving, 82, of Earlham passed away Tuesday, December 25th at the Madison County Hospital in Winterset. Visitation service will be held from 4-7 on Thursday, December 27th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Earlham. A private burial will be held at the Brethren Cemetery in rural Dallas Center. Memorial contributions may be made to Middle River Hospice, in care of, Johnson Family Funeral Home, Box 171, Earlham, IA 50072. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com. Carl was born on August 30, 1930 in a farm house near Purty, Iowa to Walter and Lois (Askren) Irving. He was the fifth of eleven children. He attended country school near the family farm. On August 17, 1949 he was united in marriage to Audrey Nissly in Dallas, Iowa. This union blessed them with two children: Michael and Cris. Carl enjoyed tending to his farm near Earlham, which he lived on for 47 years. He was an avid bird lover and raised many species of birds and livestock. He enjoyed seeing his friends at the Sale Barn where he would share stories and jokes. He ran his own truck for ten years in the Earlham area hauling livestock and grain. Most important to him was his grandchildren which he was known as a jokester and always had a quick wit. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers: Barton, Bill, Jim, Dick and David; sister: Jane and beloved dog: Ears. Left behind to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 63 years: Audrey Irving of Earlham; children: Mike (Dorthy) of Adel, Cris Fagen of Earlham; Grandchildren: Stacey (Jeff) Boston of Earlham, Brenda (Mike) Haskins of Des Moines, Troy Irving of Adel, Stefanie (Mark) Scott of Santa Barbara, California, Tammy (Paul) Bushong of Winterset, Tom (Pam) Fagen of Dexter; 16 Great-Grandchildren: Taylor, Paige, Emily, Conner, Shannon, Sarah, Ryan, Amelia, Ruby, Samantha, Ben, Kyle, Natalie, Abraham, Josie, Wyatt; siblings: Veta Petersen of Fort Dodge, Violet Greenslade of California, Della Storms of Chariton, Sam Irving of Chariton and many nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends. Professional services entrusted to Johnson Family Funeral Home – Earlham Chapel.
