Carl Kopitzke Obituary

Carl Herman Kopitzke

November 30, 1934 - October 15, 2024

Carl Herman Kopitzke, at age 89, passed peacefully surrounded by family on October 15, 2024. He was born on November 30, 1934, in St. Louis, Missouri. Carl was a dedicated and loving husband to his wife, Pat. Together they raised four children in Roanoke, Virginia.

He is survived by Kathy Kopitzke Edgell (Mark), of Oak Island, North Carolina; Kerry Kopitzke, of Stafford, Virginia; Kevin Kopitzke (Rhonda), of Roanoke, Virginia; grandchildren, Kristen Hunter (Ben), Brandon Edgell (Jordan), Breanna Boehringer and Megan Kopitzke. Carl is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Kopitzke; and son, Chris Kopitzke.

He served in the Military Police of the US Army before embarking on a 39 year career in the railroad industry. He was always committed to helping our country and his community as shown by his leadership roles with a variety of organizations such as Kiwanis, the Mill Mountain Advisory Board, and Williamson Road Recreation League. His memory will live on in the hearts of his children, grandchildren and those lives he touched with his generous spirit.

No service is planned at this time. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family suggests a donation to Mutts with a Mission, one of the organizations he was most passionate about. https://www.muttswithamission.org/

Carl was a joy to know through Kiwanis. His smile was contagious.

Carl was so special to me. I knew him from Bible Study on Tuesday mornings. When he read the scripture, the group truly listened. He was always pleasant and each week requested prayer for family and friends to have good health. I´ll miss him, but he´s up in heaven in Jesus doing great! I know I´ll see him again because of my salvation and hope in Jesus Christ.
