Carl Luke Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home & Cemetery on Feb. 2, 2026.
Carl Eugene Luke was born on August 30, 1941 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida to Richard Benjamin Luke and Lester Irene Williams Luke. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His family moved many times but returned to Jacksonville his senior year, where he graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1959. On his first Sunday at church in the old Jacksonville Fifth Ward on Park and Copeland, he saw the most beautiful girl that he would later marry. Before marrying he served a two and a half year mission in Korea for the church. Upon returning home he and Barbara got married on November 16, 1963 at the Park and Copeland Chapel. In September of 1964 they were sealed to each other for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple. He worked for the City of Jacksonville Public Works Department until his retirement after thirty years. Gene and Barbara had two children, a daughter and a son. He was always giving service to others. He often performed labor for others when he saw a need. He was also a natural teacher and loved to teach others the gospel. He served as the Bishop of the Middleburg Ward from August 1981 to March of 1987. He spoke at over seventy funerals as part of his desire to serve others. Often times there was a waiting list of people asking him to speak for them. In his later years he was overjoyed with his role as "Papa" to his only grandchild, Nicholas. They loved to spend time together and Gene cherished this relationship.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara, his son, Richard Corbey (Hazel), son-in-law Richard Bryan and his beloved grandson, Nicholas. He is also survived by one brother, Glenn and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews whom he loved. He is preceded in death by his beautiful and loving daughter Pamela Christine Bryan.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, February 5, 2026 at the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints – Middleburg Ward. The family will receive friends from 10:00am until service time. Graveside services will follow at 3:00pm, at Riverside Memorial Park.
