On October 10, 1943, Carl F. Mashack was born in Newport News, Virginia.
As a teenager, Carl began to manifest unique musical abilities. He and several of his friends from the neighborhood would gather on our front steps, their voices blending in perfect harmony as they sang the popular songs of the time. Their acapella performances, delivered with impeccable voice control, were mesmerizing.
Carl's love for music and dance culminated in his role as Drum Major at his High School. Carl did well academically. He had a reputation among his peers for being extremely gifted.
After graduation, Carl signed up for the U. S. Army. He attended boot camp at Ft. Benning, GA and from there was stationed in Germany. He served his time in the Army and left with a Corporal designation and Honorable Discharge.
After leaving the Military, he relocated to Boston, MA where he became employed by Gillette.
He embraced his new life as a Christian and became engaged in work with his church community. He later moved to Florida, met and married his wife Mattie, and out of this union they were blessed with one daughter Tabitha Michelle. In subsequent years he became a grandfather to his only granddaughter Lauren.
As years passed, he moved to New Jersey due to medical challenges to live with his sister Vera and caregiver supported by her husband, for the next 40 years.
Carl departed this life peacefully on Thursday, July 11, 2024. It gives our hearts comfort to know he is resting in the arms of Jesus. His commitment in his heart and love for God even after his recent illness was; "I love the Lord with all my heart, and with all my mind, and with all my strength".
Carl's story is one of resilience, love, the enduring power of God and the love of family; a compassionate and faithful Sister through whom that love would be conveyed for a lifetime, choosing to keep her promise to a Mother and never giving up on a brother. Despite his challenges, Carl's spirit, creativity, and faith left an indelible mark on those of us who loved him most. His Legacy will forever remain in our hearts.
