Carl J. O’Brien Jr., 73, of Brunswick, passed away unexpectedly in Troy after a brief illness on March 9, 2025. Carl was born on June 26, 1951, in Troy. He was the son of the late Carl and Marjorie O’Brien.

Carl is survived by his loving wife Judy of Brunswick; sisters Kerry (Kevin) Franklin of Menands, Maura (John) Naples of Brunswick; nephews Daniel (Deanna) Franklin, Johnny (Lora) Naples, Brian Franklin, Nicholas Naples and niece Erin Franklin. He is also survived by several great-nephews, Dylan, Chase, Liam, Louis, and nieces, Makaila, Skyler, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Carl attended La Salle Institute of Troy and SUNY Geneseo. He was a member of the Emerald Athletic Club of Troy where he formed many friendships. Throughout his working career Carl was a bartender if many places, including Nantucket, MA, Knotty Pine, Troy, NY and Lakeview Inn in Averill Park, NY.

His family was very important to Carl and he attended many sporting events that his nephews, great-nephews and niece participated in. Carl attended many RPI hockey games and enjoyed listening to Yankee games, NASCAR races and hockey games. He and his wife Judy spent many summers camping at Aqua Vista campground. Carl loved his Irish heritage and was able to travel to Ireland with his wife and parents. They also traveled to Florida to visit friends.

The wake and service will be private at the request of the family. Memorial contributions in Carl’s name may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave, Menands, NY.
