Carl Ormiston Obituary

Carl Frank Ormiston was born on September 21, 1948, at Denver General Hospital to Lee Robert Ormiston and Isabel Georgia Ormiston.  They have preceded him in death.

Carl attended Ellsworth Elementary School, Hill Junior High School and graduated from George Washgton High School in June 1966.  During high school, he was an Eagle Scout and earned the "God and Country Award" and the "Eagle Scout Award".  He was also an active instrudtor for the YMCA, American Red Cross and Boy Scout Swimmig & Life Saving classes.  After high school, Carl was a Forestry major at Northern Arizona University for a year and a half.

He took a break from academic life and joined the USMC.  Upon completing Boot Camp, he was assigned to the Defense Language Institute (DLI) where he studied the Indoinesian language.  After DLI, Carl served honorably in a variety of locations.  The Marines in Carl's unit referred to him as "Doc Sarge".  He was called Doc Sarge because when he was not doing normal Marine Corps work in the tropics, he showed the mothers and grandmothers in the village how to wash the wounds their children got while playing with warm soapy water to reduce infections common to busy children.

After the Marine Corps, Carl returned to Northern Arizona University and pursuedd a pre-Veterinary Medicine program.  He was not acceepted to Veterinary Medical School due to his age.  He worked in a variety of jobs until he returned to Metro Denver in 1983 to help our mother.  In Denver, Carl studied for and passed the Registered Nurse's Examination.  He was a Registered Nurse at Denver Health for 15 years.  When people asked him why he didn't work in suburban hospitals where he could earn more money, Carl's response was, "Poor people also need good health care."

Carl is survived by his brother, Lee Ormiston, and his neices, Elizabeth Cederberg and Kristen Gustafson.

A Committal Service for Carl will be held on Monday, December 1, 2025, at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area "B" at 3:30pm.  If attending, please arrive 15 minutes before and follow the signs to line up and be escorted to the Staging Area.
