Carl Peaspanen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lake Erie Cremation and Funeral Services on Dec. 14, 2025.
Austinburg – Carl E. Peaspanen, age 83, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, December 12, 2025, while under hospice care at Austinburg Rehabilitation Center in Austinburg, Ohio.

Born November 14, 1942, the son of Eino and Irene (Patch) Peaspanen, Carl lost his birth mother in June 1947, but was blessed with his stepmother, Evelyn (Harmon) Peaspanen in 1948. Carl attended Plymouth Elementary, Park Street Junior High and graduated in 1960 from Ashtabula High School and worked with his father on the family farm on Chapel Road, Plymouth Township.

Following graduation, Carl enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served two years before receiving an honorable medical discharge in 1962.

Carl was employed at the Ashtabula Telephone Company for several years, and then by Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company, where he retired after 30 years of service.

In May 1967, Carl married Jeanette H. Hare. They enjoyed going for walks together on park trails and driving to various historical places throughout the Eastern U.S with their children. He enjoyed serving on the Board of Elders at First Grace Gospel Church and singing in the choir. Carl will be

remembered for his sense of humor, gentleness towards all, and how much he loved his family.

Preceding Carl in death were his birth mother and infant brother, Robert Max, in 1947; his father in 1985; his stepmother in 2018; and sisters Marie (Richard) Tinker and Marilyn (David) Adams in 2024. He is survived by daughter Sarah (Arthur) Hernandez in East Hampton, CT; daughter Lydia (John) Affolter in Dalton, Ohio; son Matthew in Ashtabula; sister, Maryann (Thomas) Stevenson,

Ashtabula; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank the devoted staff and friends at Austinburg Rehabilitation Center.

A memorial service was held December 17, 2025 at First Grace Gospel Church, 5730 Adams Ave., Ashtabula, with Pastor Michael Morris officiating.

Lake Erie Cremation and Funeral Services, 1500 Harpersfield Road, Geneva, Ohio assisted the family with arrangements.
