Carl Joseph Schaetz, age 94, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, September 9, 2024, at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation for relatives and friends will take place at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids from 4:00-7:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 8 and from 9:30 until the time of Mass at the church on Monday, September 9. A Rosary Service will be held on Sunday evening at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Carl was born January 25, 1930, in Auburndale, Wisconsin to Carl and Martha (Seidl) Schaetz. He married Rose Marie Witt on August 27, 1952, in Milladore, Wisconsin.
Carl was a hardworking man who retired after 42 years at Consolidated Papers, Inc. Biron Division, as a thermomechanical pulp mill operator, retiring in 1994. He also enjoyed working many harvests with the neighborhood guys at Biron Cranberry Co. Carl enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and was always there to lend them a hand, whether working on their cars or houses. He built a home in Biron where his large gardens produced dozens of crops. He had a lifelong love of cars-particularly Fords. He could identify almost every vintage car and delighted in providing details about them. He enjoyed stock car and Nascar racing. Carl enjoyed travel throughout the United States, including several baseball stadiums, and attended many country music shows. His children remember his quiet strength, ability to get down to work without complaint, and his kindness and support of his family. He was a longtime member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Wisconsin Rapids.
Carl is survived by six children: Lorraine "Lori" (James) Walloch, Rudolph; Diane Ostlund, Plainfield, Indiana; Rose (John) Dorcey, Oshkosh; Richard (Connie) Schaetz, Biron; David Schaetz, Grand Rapids; and Jean (William) Janusheske, Appleton; Twelve grandchildren with spouses: Jeremy (Michelle) Walloch, Holmen, Wisconsin; Jill (Scott) Roon, Greenville; Tyler Height, Clayton, Indiana; Sarah Height, Louisville, Kentucky; Luke (Caitlin) Parmeter, Wisconsin Rapids; Sister Maria Caeli Parmeter, Metairie, Louisiana; Monica (fiancé Greg Czarny) Schaetz, Amber ( special friend Tyler Simms) Schaetz, of Wisconsin Rapids; Dakota Schaetz, Fond du Lac; Skylar Schaetz, Bend, Oregon; Alex (Ashley) Niles, Appleton; and Nick (Selena) Niles, Appleton; Twelve great grandchildren: Elisabeth, Adelaide, Caroline Rose, and Hannah Walloch; Madalynn and Cody Roon; Trenton and Stephen Height; Logan and Claire Parmeter, and Nolan Niles and Camila Sanchez-Niles; One sibling: Rose (Larry) Carter, Marshfield; sisters-in-law: Karlyn Witt, Rudolph, Alice Schaetz, Marshfield, Dorothy (Leroy) Spatz, Sheboygan Falls, Agnes Smazal, Wisconsin Rapids, and Lydia Albert, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose, on December 29, 2019, His parents, Carl and Martha Schaetz, brother Jacob Schaetz, sister Mary Ann Baltus, and a grand daughter-in-law, Jessica Height.
