Carl Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crandell Funeral Home - White Cloud Chapel on Oct. 3, 2025.
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Carl Ronald Smith, who departed this world on Wednesday, October 1st, 2025. He was born on September 5th, 1932, in White Cloud, Michigan, and had resided in the welcoming community of Newaygo, Michigan, for many years.

Carl dedicated his life to his family, his country, and his craft. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956, where he was stationed on the aircraft carrier USS Midway and on the Destroyer USS Laffey as a boilerman first class. His time in the Navy was a source of pride, and he cherished the memories and friendships formed during his service. Following his military service, Carl embarked on a career in maintenance, where he applied his skills and love for working with his hands. His passion for wood carving was well recognized, and he found great joy in creating beautiful pieces that are cherished by family and friends.

Carl was a devoted family man who loved to spoil his grandchildren and spent countless winters in Largo, Florida, creating precious memories. He is survived by his children Alan Ronald Smith, Patricia Kay (Todd) Baribeau, and Kevin Arthur Smith, his cherished sister Margaret White, 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved spouse, Barbara Ann Smith, his parents William Alfred and Emma Harriot Smith, his infant son Kyle Brian Smith, his siblings Clarabelle Smith, Frank Smith, Luella May, Evelyn May, Raymond Smith, and William Smith.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in memory of Carl.

A visitation will be held on Monday, October 13th at 11 am, followed by a celebration of Carl's life at 12 pm at the White Cloud United Methodist Church, with a lunch to follow. Arrangements have been lovingly provided by Crandell Funeral Home - White Cloud.
