Carl Edward “Buddy” Smithey, 85, of Searcy, AR, passed away on Friday, December 19, 2025, following a long illness. He was born in New Albany, Mississippi, on November 17, 1940, to the late Melvin Presley Smithey and Carrie Foreman Smithey.
Buddy was a man who defined himself through hard work and a love for the outdoors. He dedicated many years of service to Brown & Root Construction Company and also co-owned a construction business alongside Mr. Evans. Whether he was hauling hay, cutting wood, or tending to his garden, Buddy was happiest when he was working with his hands and spending time in nature. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who truly enjoyed the beauty of the world around him.
A man of deep faith and community roots, Buddy held the distinct honor of being the oldest member of Harmony Methodist Church. Above all, he was a devoted father who loved his family and friends dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Presley and Carrie Smithey; his son, Mark Edward Smithey; his grandson, Dakota Smithey; his brother, Claud Lamar Smithey; two sisters, Norma Jean Smithey and Brenda Smithey Hunter; and his former wife, Thurley Smithey.
Survived by his son, Carl Wayne Smithey; his sister, Mildred Miller; his grandson, Mitchell Smithey; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Searcy McEuen Funeral Home on Monday, December 29, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be at Harmony Community Cemetery. www.searcymceuenfuneralhome.com.
