Carl Frederick Startup Jr

1941 - 2025

Carl Frederick "Fred" Startup Jr. passed away on December 15, 2025, during a hospital stay.
Fred was a graduate of Washington State University and the founder of Sequim Valley Pump and Electric, which he built into a highly successful and respected business. He took great pride in working alongside his son, Cory Wayne Startup, and in mentoring his nephew, Oscar "Scooter" Rychlik, sharing both his skills and strong work ethic.
Fred was a kind and compassionate man who cared deeply for those who came from hard places. He sought to understand their circumstances and empower them to overcome life's challenges. Family meant everything to Fred, and even in declining health he remained interested in the comings and goings of loved ones near and far. His familiar check-in often began with, "How you doing, kid?"
Fred is survived by his siblings Liz Rychlik and Robert Startup; his niece Suzanne (Rychlik) Snydar; his nephew Oscar "Scooter" Rychlik Jr.; beloved nieces Jaime (Rychlik) Hatch and Sarah (Rychlik) Kullman; and his cherished great-nephew Ryan Rychlik, whom he loved and protected fiercely. He is also survived by his son Cory Startup; grandsons Tyson and Braden Startup; numerous additional great grandchildren, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and his and Susan's precious pup, Millie.
As Psalm 127:4-5 reminds us, "Children are like arrows in the hand of a warrior." Fred truly had many arrows in his quiver. Though he may not have been young when many of these blessings arrived, he was blessed beyond measure by their love and affection-and they by his.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Vivian Startup, and by his beloved Susan (Startup) Cole.
