The Hon. Carl E. Taylor

I was a member of the vaunted Raiders lax squad alongside Carl. He gave me the nickname "Slash" not for my blazing speed or race car cornering (I had neither) but in recognition of my propensity to commit needless fouls. A man who saw the truth and spoke of it with good humor! Although we were not close, I remember Carl fondly. May he rest in peace, and may his family and friends treasure his memory.

I met Carl on the first day of law school at UConn and we remained friends for decades. His sense of humor was contagious; his sense of fairness and compassion was a judicial model. Our paths crossed when he sat on the bench at the Superior Court for Juvenile in Hartford and I supervised the State's Attorney's Office. When my daughter attended his alma mater Wesleyan he never failed to ask how she was doing.
We spent numerous autumn Saturdays together at Corwin Field where he was a regular fixture watching football and sharing Lacrosse stories.
As many have mentioned, he had a booming laugh as well as a quick wit.
I will miss him.

Please accept my deepest condolences. Judge Taylor was a force to be reckoned with in the courtroom.

Thank you for being there for my son with Lacrosse. You not only gave guidance on the field but in life. You helped me with words of kindness and wisdom when it came to my career and life. You were an among the most amazing men to look up too. Thank you for everything you did for my family

As a college classmate of Carl´s and the goalie for the Red Raiders JV lacrosse team behind Carl´s defense (thanks, Mac, for our name: "Raiders!"), I feel privileged to join in celebrating his life. Just yesterday I was telling a friend who´d grown up in central Connecticut about our team´s exploits. What he went on to be - noted judge, longtime youth coach - is exemplary. And that garage full of used lacrosse gear for kids to borrow, that´s pure Carl Taylor. What a spirit, and what a voice. We are blessed with the memories of our time together.

So very sorry to hear of his Honor's passing. I appeared before him many many times. He'd yell at me on the bench but when he had a minute, he ALWAYS asked me how my grandchildren were and did I have pictures for him to see. Judge Taylor you were always larger than life. God speed.

So saddened to hear about Judge Taylor's passing! I enjoyed the time we worked together at Juvenile Court in Middletown . He had a great laugh and it was infectious! He always asked how my family was doing. He will be missed! My condolences to his family!

He will be truly missed in the halls and behind the benches of all the court houses for which he served. Respected him so highly. He was honest and down to earth. He was a wonderful mentor for all lawyers.

Wont soon forget the sheet hanging out the window overlooking the football field: "Carl Taylor: #68 (I think) in your program, and #1 in your heart." Wish I had a photo.

Carl was one of the first people I got to know at Wesleyan. We both were on the football team and had lockers near one another. There was never a dull moment with Carl. He had a great sense of humor and kept us entertained season after season. He could also play football very well. He was a great man even then and liked by all. It was no surprise that he accomplished so much. He will be missed by all of his teammates.

I worked with Judge Taylor in the early 2000s when he was in GA12. His smile and laughter were infectious. So sorry for your loss.

Carl was a wonderful mentor to me and to so many others I owe him a debt of gratitude that I could never repay. He always gave so freely of his advice and knowledge. He made all of us better prosecutors and better people. The people of Connecticut, particularly the people of New Britain, should also be forever grateful to Carl for his commitment to public safety. It was an honor to know him and to call him a friend.

I had the privilege to serve with Carl for several years. I will miss his deep booming voice and friendship and genuine humanity. He was a spectacular role model and compassionate human being. Our state judiciary is greatly diminished by his passing. Sail on, my friend.
