Carl Wesley Thomas was born February 13, 1958, in Bronx, New York to Edward and Ethel Thomas. He was raised in Perry, Georgia, with his early years spent between Perry, Georgia, and Chicago, Illinois. In his later years, he maintained dual residency, which included
Gary, Indiana. Carl attended St. Leo's Catholic School and graduated from Chicago Vocational High School for auto mechanics, which highlighted his love of cars before completing two years of post-high school education. Over his 50-year career, he worked at Royal Crown Bottling Company, FedEx, and as a Boilerman Technician at Ingredion Incorporated, and he took pride in serving as a Trustee for Steelworkers Union Local 7-507.
Carl's calm and gentle presence brought peace to those around him, earning him the affectionate nickname "Gentle Giant" from his sisters. He was also known to his colleagues and friends as "Fish" or "Big Bro". He had a deep love for music, especially steppers music, which brought him great joy, and he also enjoyed sports, appreciating the excitement and camaraderie they offered. Carl was known for his tireless work ethic and dedication, applying himself fully to both his work and his passions. In every season, he showed generosity, kindness, and genuine consideration for those he cared for.
Carl is survived by his wife, Angela F.Y. Thomas, whom he lovingly supported as a devoted husband, provider, and protector. He leaves behind his daughters; Kellie Foster (John) and Morgan Thomas, and his stepchildren; Meliah Boyd and Blake Boyd. He is also survived by his siblings; Angela C. Thomas-Gully (Earl) , Sharon Thomas Brown (Quentin) of El Paso, Texas, Angela Burns of Hawkinsville, Georgia, and Lanita H. Thomas (Kevin Hopkins) of Chicago, Illinois; nieces and nephews include; Arianna Bradley, Christopher A. Brown (Shawndrea), Anthony A. Brown, and Steven T. Brown (Mireya), and the late Quentin K. Brown, Jr., Katrina Johnson, Eddie Johnson, Brandon Perry, Xavier Brown, Lauryn Thomas, Matthew Hopkins, Ashley Bynum (Chanlor), William Young (Victoria), Gregory Young (Jenae), and Marisol Young; he was a great- uncle to Mya, Shamare, Braylin, Amelia, Ty, Winston, and Alister. Carl is also survived by extended family, including his aunts and uncles; Mattie Presley of Warner Robbins, Georgia, Duncan Ragin (Helen) of Columbus, Georgia, Horace Ragin (Marci) of Cebu City, Philippines, as well as his brothers-in-law, James Young, Rhenwick Young (Jayne) and Brian Young (Kim); cherished friends, Bruce Burrel, Jams Means, Malcolm Jackson, and Louis Smith.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 10, 2025, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. with Celebration of Life Services 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. from Ridgelawn Funeral Home 4201 West Ridge Road
