Funeral for Carl Franklin Ward, 71, of Decatur will be Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Central Church of Christ in Athens with Bill Perkins officiating, John Ward and Ward Webster assisting. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Buringtree Memorial Gardens in Decatur.
Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 9 at Peck Funeral Home in Hartselle and Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church.
Mr. Ward was born Oct. 3, 1937, in Hartselle to Weldon Harlon Ward and Eva Wright Ward. After a courageous three-year battle with cancer, he passed away at his home in Decatur on Sept. 16, 2009. He was a member of Central Church of Christ in Athens, where he served as a deacon. He served in the Alabama National Guard and spent his working career in the electrical services and sales industry.
He was preceded in death by his father, father-in-law Devere Nowlin Macoy and mother-in-law Catherine Teague Macoy.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Beverly Macoy Ward; daughter Elizabeth Davis "Beth" Keys (Joel) of Atlanta, Ga.; two sons, Carl Brad Ward of Springville and Jeremy Lile (Nikki) of Maryville, Tenn.; his mother, Eva Wright Ward of Hartselle; two sisters, Syble Anders (Bobby) of Hartselle and Mary South (Doug) of Decatur; four brothers, Joel Ward (Danny) of Hartselle, John Ward (Brenda) of Woodstock, Ga., David Ward (Kim) of Hartselle and Tony Ward (Tricia) of Hartselle; four sisters-in-law, Cathy Stillwell (Mac) of Nashville, Tenn., Janice Godwin (Don) of Enterprise, Nancy Wallace (Albert) of Decatur and Diane Ryan (John) of Decatur; and three grandchildren, Johnna Davis, Johnny Davis and Brittney Ward.
Pallbearers will be Hal Baker, Brian Cagle, Charles Edwards, Hugh Johnson, Steven Stewart and Brett Speegle.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Don Bailey, Tom Corum, Jim Minor, Hoyt Nelson, Howell Puckett, Gene Stewart and Brian Free and Assurance.
A special thanks to Dr. Steve Chandler and Hospice of the Valley for their kind and loving care.
