Carl Warwick Obituary

Carl Wayne Warwick
04/05/2025
Carl Wayne Warwick was called to be with God on April 5, 2025. He passed peacefully at home with his family by his side.
Joining his parents, Beulah and Jay Carl Warwick along with his brother Tommy Warwick. Carl is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Nancy Hensler Warwick.
Cherishing Carl's memory are his two daughters, Karla and Julie and their husbands Scott and Alan. Survived by six grandkids, Daniel Baker, wife Kristen, David Baker, wife Jana, Jay Chapman, wife Dinell, Gregory Chapman, Jr., wife Emma, Drs. Jennifer Youngblood, husband Todd, and Vanessa Kent. Great-grandchildren Luke, Ellie, Aubrey, Scottie, Bennett, Charlotte, Caleb, Morgan, Cade and Sloane. Sister-in-law Debbie Hensler Fitzgerald, husband Kinney and niece Gena Hutto, husband Dean, nephews Chad and Ryan, wives Molly and Heather, along with several great nieces and nephews.
Born in Dallas, Carl met Nancy, from Baytown, at Texas Christian University. He made the All-Conference team in 1956 and All-American in 1957. Carl signed his pro-contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1957 at the age of 20. He went to the minors and debuted his career with the Dodgers in 1961. Carl was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals then to Houston Colt .45s. The Cardinals traded back for him in 1963.
Carl is best remembered for his performance in the 1964 World Series with the Cardinals, tying the record for pinch hits which stands today. After the Cardinals, he went to the Baltimore Orioles and ended his career with the Chicago Cubs at age 29. When he retired from baseball, he started Carl Warwick and Associates, a real estate investment company. He continued with baseball being Chairman of the Major League Baseball Alumni organization, overseeing charity golf tournaments to benefit distressed players.
Carl helped form the R.E. Bob Smith Award for outstanding college baseball player of the year award. He was a member of the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority for 12 years. He was inducted into the TCU Lettermen's Hall of Fame in 1989 and into the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame in 2003.
Carl was a member of Champions Golf Club since 1966 and a long-standing member of Champions Forest Baptist Church. He has also supported multiple charities throughout his years. Whether golfing, fishing, or telling stories of his playing days, his proudest moments were spent with his family.
He never met a stranger, saw the good in everyone. Friendship was the most important part of life to him except for his love for God.
To God be the glory.

We always looked forward to visiting with Carl and Nancy. My mother, Betty Murray, and Nancy´s mother were sisters. They were always so kind and loving to all that had the privilege of knowing them.

I´m so sorry for your loss. I am praying for you all. Please know that your loved one is safe in God´s memory (Proverbs 14:14,15). Just as he brought his son Jesus back to life, he will do the same for your loved one. May God give you comfort and strength to help you cope during this difficult time.

From the Wagner family - our condolences for your loss. There is no doubt that Carl is now with Jesus. He clearly loved his family, he had many friends from many circles in his life, and he loved Jesus. God bless you.
