Died: June 7, 2024 in McHenry, IL
Carl Henry Woerner, 89, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2024, in McHenry, Illinois. He was born to Karl and Gertrude Spiess Woerner on August 25, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois.
Carl, a Bradley University graduate and US Army veteran, owned and operated Carl Woerner Heating and Cooling for over 50 years, during which he became a long-standing respected pillar of McHenry and surrounding communities. Carl loved his family in his distinctive, tough love way. He also loved traveling the world in search of the best fishing holes. Carl served as a volunteer firefighter for the Wauconda Fire Department from February 1960 until November 1976. He also held McHenry County board membership, serving on several committees throughout his tenure. An active member of the community, Carl was a Medinah Shriner, member of Wauconda Masonic Lodge #289, and the Wauconda Moose Lodge #1969, serving in leadership capacities in all of them, donating his time and resources. He was also a key member of the Island Lake Businessmen's Association, who contributed the "Christmas Star" to remember the losses caused by a massive tornado that struck Crystal Lake on Palm Sunday, April 11, 1965, and commemorate the birth of Christ. Carl was instrumental to the project; resourcing, constructing, and placing the five-pointed star currently sitting atop the Island Lake Water Company Tower, which will forever be a legacy.
Carl is survived by his wife, Roberta R. Woerner, sons Karl "Hank" Woerner and Chris (Diane) Woerner; daughters Lisa (Raven) Vega, Lori Woerner, and Karla (Jimmy) Ayala; stepbrother Wayne Albright, step-nephew David (Jane) Albright, and step-niece Phyllis (Martin) Camp; stepsons Ed (Sally) Dunne, Jim "AJ" (Wanda) Dunne, John (Diane) Dunne; stepdaughters Gail (Brice) Burke and Dolly Dunne; nephews Kevin (Naomi) White and Andrew (Sharon) White; along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
