Carla Dye-Swingler Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Legacy Options Funeral and Cremation Services, LLC - Fort Myers on Jan. 5, 2026.
Carla Anita Dye-Swingler was born on July 20, 1962 to the late Louis Dye and Leila Dorothy Davis.

As a young girl, Carla developed an interest in reading. She read and studied passages in the Christian Bible. And, she also enjoyed reading popular novels. While attending church during her youth, Carla enjoyed singing in the church quire with her sisters. She even took interest in playing the classical guitar.

In high school, Carla found herself to be a natural at secretarial studies. She was drawn to learn typing, shorthand and business writing. She would often say "I like the way my fingers move across the keyboard… This is easy!"

Carla enrolled in Miami Dade College immediately after graduating from Miami Southridge High in Dade county Florida. At Miami Dade College, She continued her studies developing her administrative skills. Carla attained a two year Secretarial Science degree that paved the way for her to enter the job market.

She then married her high school class mate, Everett (Charles) Swingler a few months after college.

Carla soon found job positions as an administrative assistant laying the foundation for a promising career. Her career aspirations in administrative support included associations of manufacturing and medical malpractice insurance. After a five year period of working for various organizations, Carla was blessed with her first child (Samantha). She took this opportunity to pause her career aspirations to become a home maker and raise her family.

Carla later birthed two more children (Chioke & Salihah). She birthed her son Chioke at home on a day when no doctor or nurse was around, only her husband and first child. Carla birthed her last child at home as well with the help of midwives. Carla took on the role as the first teacher for her children and established primary instruction before her children entered the first grade.

She then, restarted her career after her children were old enough to do most things on their own.

Carla resumed her career path with ease and concentrated on community colleges (Prince Georges Community College & Community College of Baltimore County). She wanted to work in environments where the local youth are supported by professionals like herself. She often interacted with the student body fostering encouragement and good will.

Carla retired from working in 2021. Her marriage covered a time span of over four decades and produced three children. One of Carla's favorite pass times was to sit in-person with others and have conversations about life, Christianity and personal development.

Left to cherish a lifetime filled with loving memories is Carla's devoted husband of 40 years, Everett Charles Swingler, her children: Samantha Swingler, Chioke Louis Swingler and Salihah Swingler, her grand children: Carmyn Swingler and Brooklyn Goodings.

Carla's sisters: Dorothy Williams, Valdia Morris, Diana Krute, Lola Cole, Sharon Langston, Lisa Dye-Fry, Theresa Dye-Brooks

Carla's brothers: Alan Mills, Jeffrey, Stanley, David, John and James

Carla leaves behind many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, mother-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.

I love you so much mommy I have so many memories with you too many to even count you´ve always been there for me always made sure there was food on the table a roof over our heads and a kind word to keep us in good spirits, I hate that your not here anymore but I´m glad your not suffering in pain anymore, a good memory I have with you is we used to go swimming in the indoor pools and you used to sit in the kiddy pools with me cause I was too little to go in the big ones we used to talk about how warm and comfortable the kiddy pools were mommy you were the most giving and caring person I know I will never forget you and you will always be in my heart -your youngest daughter Salihah

Candy Carr-Smith, Carla always had a bright smile and laughed very easily. So many great thoughts about Carla flood my mind but a humorous memory is every time we went to lunch, Carla would pull out of her purse her own salad dressing and seasonings to add to her salad. Carla was a lot of fun to be around and I have missed her so much since she retired from CCBC! Love ya Carla!
