D. Carla Payson, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 29, 2024, at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Born on December 10, 1943, in Stamford, CT, Carla was the beloved daughter of the late Carl E. and Helen O'Grady. She grew up in Stamford and later made her home in Norwalk before settling in Branford.
Carla was a woman of many passions and talents. She earned an associate's degree from Norwalk Community College and worked as a self-employed bookkeeper, a profession through which she connected with many and was well-respected. Her creative spirit flourished in her love for painting and drawing, a pursuit that brought her great joy and allowed her to express her artistic side. She was also an athlete, enjoying many sports including softball, tennis, and skiing, activities that she embraced with enthusiasm and skill.
In addition to her artistic and athletic pursuits, Carla was known for her warmth and love of conversation. She had a remarkable ability to make others feel at ease and was always eager to engage in dialog. Her presence was marked by her kindness and genuine interest in the lives of those around her.
Carla's greatest joy came from her role as a grandmother. She absolutely adored her grandchildren, Justin and Cara Payson, who brought immense happiness and pride into her life. Her love for them was boundless and they were a constant source of joy and inspiration.
Carla is also survived by her son, Jay Payson of St. George, UT. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A memorial visitation to celebrate Carla's life will be held on Thursday, August 8, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, with a brief service at 6:00 PM, at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford. Friends and family are invited to join in honoring her memory and sharing in the love and stories that defined her remarkable life.
