Carla Jeanne Thomas, 66, passed away peacefully at her home in Altus, Oklahoma on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, with family by her side. The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Thursday, December 21st at Kincannon Funeral Home. Services will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 22nd at the Martha Road Baptist Church with Pastor Kevin Baker officiating. Burial will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Carla was born on July 17, 1957, to Linda (Stout) and Carl Frederick Reinhardt, II in Huntington, West Virginia. She attended school in Suffolk, Virginia and graduated from John Yeates High School with the Class of 1975. She then attended the Dallas Court Reporting School receiving a degree in Certified Shorthand Reporting. From there she relocated to Altus and began her career as a Certified Oklahoma Court Reporter for the District Courts of Oklahoma. Though she initially thought she had reached the end of the world, she served as a court reporter for the Judges of the District III Courts in Jackson, Tillman, Kiowa, Harmon, Washita, and Greer counties for 31 years until her retirement in 2017. During her first year of court reporting in Jackson County, she caught the eye of a young, local attorney, David Thomas. After a speedy dating relationship, and not wanting to let Carla get away, David and Carla were married on August 29, 1981, in Altus.
She was a member of the Martha Road Baptist Church and served in the Awana program. Carla was engaged in community service groups including Operation CARE and Altus Pathways. She enjoyed reading, the beach, cooking/baking, and she loved the Christmas season. Carla was an avid spectator at all the sporting events of her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Linda; and a niece, Linda Reinhardt-Villareal. Those left to honor Carla’s memory are her husband of 42 years, David; daughters, Lindsay Miller and Ashley Hawthorne; son, Jason Thomas; grandchildren, Trevor Hawthorne, Addison Hawthorne, Carly Thomas, Blake Hawthorne, Ava Thomas, Duke Thomas, Cole Miller, and Caleb Miller; great grandchild, Parker Morris; siblings, Lisa McGhee and husband, John and Rick Reinhardt and wife, Maria; along with many nieces, nephews, and great friends.
The family humbly requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made in Carla’s memory to Operation Care Ministries, 221 West Walnut Street, Altus, Oklahoma 73521. Online tributes may be made at kincannonfuneralhome.com
