Carlene Fields Obituary

Carlene A. (Frid) Fields, 78
1947 - 2026
Lynn - Carlene Fields passed away having loved and been loved deeply. She leaves a legacy of a life filled with passion for education, family, and life. Born in Lynn to the late Eileen Spencer, she is predeceased by her stepfather, Marshall Spencer; and her brothers Henry "Russ" Frid and Kenneth Thompson.
Carlene graduated from Lynn Classical High School and continued her education at UMass Amherst, earning a Bachelor's degree in Education. It was there, on the quad, that she met the love of her life and her husband of 52 years, William "Bill" Fields. They met while he was playing guitar, a passion that he would carry throughout their marriage together, bringing music to the forefront of Carlene's life.
Carlene dedicated 37 years to teaching for the Lynn Public Schools, shaping young minds and fostering lasting connections. She began her career at Sewell-Anderson Elementary School in the 1970s, spending the final 14 years at Sisson Elementary School as a beloved kindergarten teacher. She retired in 2006, though her passion for education lived on through helping her grandchildren learn how to read and write. Carlene's impact on her students was so great that she would often get recognized by them decades later. Whether it be at the grocery store, on vacation, or at the top of Loon Mountain, Carlene met a former student wherever she went.
Outside of education, she had a deep love for animals, especially dogs. Many of her neighbors had dogs that Carlene would give treats and love to. She came to be infamous for her generosity towards the pups and dogs would often stop by her house looking for her even when she was not home.
She is survived by her daughter, Kerri-Anne Kelley of Lynn; her son-in-law, James Kelley; and her cherished grandchildren, Michael, Christopher, and Caitlin, who were the light of her life. She is also lovingly remembered by her nieces Laraine Frid of New Hampshire, Kristin Walker of Florida, and Renee Finkelstein of New York; her nephew Andrew Finkelstein of New York; her sister-in-law Marcia Kasuba of California; and her Collins Family cousins in New York and Frid Family cousins in California.
Carlene will be remembered for her warmth, her devotion to teaching, her love of family, her fondness for animals, and the countless lives she touched simply by being herself. Her kindness and influence will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Service Information: Memorial visitation for Carlene will be held on Wednesday January 28, 2026 from 3-7PM with a memorial service at 6:30PM at SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME 426 Broadway (Rt129) Lynn.
