Carletta P. Galloway 87, of Smithville, TX, formally of Jonestown, TX, passed away peacefully on March 28,2025.

She was born Carletta Palmist on September 28, 1937, in Austin, TX to Kilda Mae Lockhart and Carl Petterson. Carletta was a proud graduate of Austin High School and attended the University of Texas before marrying. Throughout her life, Carletta exemplified an incredible work ethic, holding multiple jobs at once and going above and beyond for her family and community.

She proudly served in the Civil Air Patrol and as a Peace Officer for Muller airport after her graduation from the Austin Police Academy. Carletta worked at the Internal Revenue Service earning her retirement after 32 years.

Quickly realizing retirement was not for her, Carletta then went to work for Austin Community College for 13 years and then at Hobby Lobby until fully retiring and moving to Smithville, TX.

Known for her love of sewing and genealogy, she was also an avid hobbyist that spent her time building intricate doll houses. On most days you could find Carletta watching nature and birds of all types, including her favorite, the Chinook helicopter, from her back deck in Jonestown, TX.

Her strong work ethic, determination and kind heart were defining characteristics of her character. She was the type of person who could accomplish anything that she set her mind to, even building a gazebo single-handedly. Carletta’s greatest joy was her family. She was devoted to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Her love and kindness knew no bounds and she was always there to lend a loving hand, a kind ear, a kernel of advice or a stern scolding to anyone that needed it.

She was proceeded in death by her father Carl Petterson, her mother Kilda Mae Lockhart, her stepfather "Mr. Pete" and her daughter Gaylen Meuth. Carletta is survived by her son Gerald and Patricia Mathis, her son Greg Mathis, her Son Glenn and Tammy McBee and her daughter Glenis McBee; her 11 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Carletta's leagacy of love, strength, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

Funeral services will be held at Marrs Jones Funeral Home in Smithville, Texas on April 26, 2025 at 11:00am.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the Bastrop County Animal Shelter.
