Howard Gene Schultz of Round Rock, Texas passed away Tuesday, February 24th at the age of 92.

Howard was born in Smithville, Texas on April 24, 1933 to Emil “Cotton” and Elberta McAnaney Schultz.

Howard began his service to others at an early age. When he was in Junior High, he was a chaperone at the Smithville First Baptist Church Small Boys Camp and in 1950 he held a post at Boys State. He worked numerous jobs over his lifetime. After graduating from Smithville High School in 1951, he was a driver for a surveying company and then worked at the Smithville Exxon Service Station. He then enlisted in the US Navy Air Force as an Aviation Hydraulics Mechanic from 1952-1956. He began working at Shell Oil Company from 1956 to 1968 in Deer Park as a senior draftsman. During this time, he started attending night school at the University of Houston for drafting technology. Howard then moved to Taylor to work at Taylor Manufacturing Company as a draftsman from 1968-1971. He then went to work for his uncle, John W. Thompson, at Thompson Manufacturing and Construction Company from 1971-1977. In September 1977, Howard and a co-worker, Zeke Young, began their own company, Young and Schultz Construction Company, Inc. They worked together until 1986. He semi-retired and worked at a hardwood moulding plant until going back to work full-time for Butler Manufacturing in San Marcos from 1986-1999 when he officially retired.

Howard was not one to sit around and be idle. He enjoyed being outside and loved working in his yard and attending to his squirrels and birds and helping his neighbors when needed. Howard and Audrey did a bit of traveling to Ireland, Alaska, the Mediterranean, and the Caribbean.

Howard met Audrey Ruth Heinemann in 1981 and married on June 25, 1983. They were married for 38 years before Audrey passed away on September 12, 2021.

Howard is survived by his sister, Margaret Ann Hanna of Red Rock, his sister-in-law, Kathy Moldovan of Arizona, his first wife Eugenia Evicic Miller and their three children – Michele Walls and husband Steve, Janine Nemec and husband Michael, and Chris Schultz; four grandchildren – Daniel Filla and wife Emily, Travis Nemec and wife Emily, Mark Nemec and wife Natalie, and Mikayla Nemec; three great-grandchildren – Miles and Morgan Filla and Marie Nemec and Audrey’s four children – Curt Heinemann and wife Debbie, Gail Schlecht, Jeff Heinemann and Susan Carpenter and husband Brian; five grandchildren-Troy Heinemann and wife Julie, Tera Dickerson and husband Scott, Nichole Heinemann, Garrett Carpenter and wife Megan, and Justin Carpenter and wife Lauren; six great-grandchildren-Wade Heinemann, Gage and Laine Dickerson, Crew and Tatum Carpenter, and Charlotte Carpenter.
