Carlos "John" Lovetinsky, 90, of Iowa City, passed away on Wednesday December 24, 2025 at his home with family by his side.

A celebration of John's life will be from 1:00 - 3:00 Saturday April 25, 2026 at Kirkwood Room, 515 Kirkwood Ave, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or plant a tree at F. W. Kent Park, Johnson County.

John Lovetinsky was born August 15, 1935 in Iowa City, Iowa to Edward and Cora (Prizler) Lovetinsky.

While working for his brother Ervin as a mechanic, he met Marcia Jacobson, who was working behind the counter at Breese's (NAPA). On April 28, 1967, John and Marcia were married. They had four children: Larry, Kelly, Carla, and John. Marcia passed away October 8, 2000.

John later met Mary Geasland, proposed to her in April of 2002, and they married on October 19, 2002 at F. W. Kent Park.

John helped his uncle tend crops and livestock in the North Liberty area for 30 years. He worked at Farm Service (FS), Tiffin for 28 years and then Cedar Rapids Steel Transport (CRST) for 10 years.

John loved travelling, especially throughout Wisconsin during fall leaf time always with a stop at "Ole Granddad" in La Crosse. Anytime traveling to the National Parks and other USA wonders he included casino stops.

He enjoyed fishing and watching baseball and football games. In his younger days, he coached little league baseball, bowled the local lanes in various leagues, was known to hang regularly in Hills playing euchre, and "hang" on the Galena snow slopes.

He and Marcia spent many weekends camping at various area sites with a wonderful group of friends. He loved the country and farming life.

John is survived by his wife Mary; by his children Larry (Shannon) Lovetinsky, Kelly (David) Meardon, Carla (Jon) Knudsen, and John Lovetinsky; by his stepchildren Darlene (Brian) Brown, Patrick Geasland, and David (Katie) Geasland; his siblings Richard Lovetinsky, Dean (Marlee) Lovetinsky, and Bertilla Farrier; by sisters-in-law Carol (Randy) Collins, Bonnie Jacobson, Ann (Kevin) Opitz, Terri Dillon and Valerie Page. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jacob (Makenzie) Lovetinsky, Austin Meeks, and Kilia Meeks; step-grandchildren Logan (Jayden) and Caden (Manal) Brown, Allyson, Carley, Austin, Alex Geasland and Ashlyn (Lucas) Walker; and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Marcia, his sister Bernice Lovetinsky, brothers Ervin, Robert, and Wayne Lovetinsky, his sisters-in-law Pauline, Millie, and Dorothy Lovetinsky plus brother-in-law Steve Jacobson and step granddaughter Bria Brown.

Online condolences and memories may be shared on John's Tribute Wall.
