Carlos Robert Rickman Jr.

Carlos Robert Rickman, 31, of Commerce, Texas, passed away April 13, 2025, at his home. A memorial service will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church in Greenville, Texas on Friday April 25th at 10:00 a.m.
Carlos was born June 28, 1993, in Orange County, California to Carlos Roberto Rickman and Kathy Borden Davis. In highschool he participated in band and played the trumpet. He married Josephine Ada Just on May 28, 2016, in Commerce, Texas. The couple met at Texas A&M University-Commerce where they were students. They were both involved in the Wesleyan Campus Ministry where they grew in their faith, their relationship with each other, and their friendships.
Carlos was the Communications Director at Wesley United Methodist Church in Greenville, where he was a member. He was a self-proclaimed church nerd who loved God, loved others, and loved making worship and church operations the best they could be.
At age 28 Carlos was diagnosed with a cardiac angiosarcoma, an incredibly rare cancer with an average survival of 7 months post-diagnosis. Carlos honored his diagnosis date every year, determined to celebrate each additional year of life. He passed away on his 3rd ''cancerversary'' after years of treatment, including chemo and open heart surgery. Carlos became an advocate for the Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) cancer community who face unique challenges.
In his spare time, Carlos was an avid player of Magic the Gathering and was known as the ''rules lawyer'' at his local game store. He cared deeply about politics and making sure his less political friends were supported by texting election updates and offering rides to the polls. He enjoyed baking sourdough bread, attending Mavs basketball games, and bartending drinks for his friends. He loved his cats, Croissant and Pecan Pie, who were his constant companions during his cancer treatment.
Above all, Carlos cared deeply about making his corner of the world a better place. Whether that was through a heart for campus ministry and college students, a heart for people alienated from the church, or a heart for young adults diagnosed with cancer, Carlos was always an advocate for others.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine Rickman; brothers Derek Rickman and Anthony Rickman; mother Kathy and stepfather Tim Davis; Skyler and Janie; father Carlos and stepmother Joyce Rickman; grandmother Grace Rickman; several loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews; other family members and many close and caring friends.
He was preceded in death by Dickie Rickman and Jeffrey Rickman.
Carlos has asked that any memorial donations be made to the love of his life, Josephine Rickman, or to Dan's House of Hope in Houston, an cancer organization supporting Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer patients.
