Carlos Sanchez

Carlos Sanchez, 92, of Aberdeen, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025.

Born into The Silent Generation, Carlos immigrated to America at just 14 years old from Havana, Cuba. He deeply admired his new country and honored it throughout his life, embracing every opportunity it offered. A proud U.S. Army veteran, he served in the Korean War with honor and courage.

Following his service, Carlos pursued his creative passion, opening his own animation studio in New York City, Imagination on Film. His talent and dedication were recognized in 1960 when he was part of the team that won the Academy Award for Best Short Subjects (Animation) for the film Moonbird.

Carlos was more than his accomplishments - he was a man of kindness, humility, and devotion to his family. On a beach many years ago, he proposed to his beloved Rose with a promise: if she married him, he would put her on a pedestal for the rest of her life. And he did. He took care of Rose as he did the rest of his family, never complaining, always with a smile, and often with a whistle. He loved taking Rose salsa dancing and was her sous chef at the many incredible dinner parties they hosted in their home. Married for 65 years, he showed every day what it meant to love unconditionally.

He cherished family traditions, from enjoying Charlie Brown's Thanksgiving Special to cheering for the New York Rangers, despite Rose's playful disapproval. An animal lover at heart, he cared for many pet cats throughout his life, bringing joy and laughter to his home. If we all follow his life's example, the world would indeed be a better place.

Carlos leaves behind a devoted family who will forever cherish his memory: his beautiful wife, Rose Sanchez; his treasured sister, Gladys Acoba; his three beloved children, Donna Burger and her husband William, Dawn Ravin Johnson and her husband Michael, and Carlos Sanchez; and his three adored grandchildren, Raquel Kacar and her husband Alexander, Alexa Billings and her husband Matthew, and Nicollette Burger.

A private military burial will be held this week, with a public memorial to follow at a later date.
