Carlos Hershel "Chuck" Shook Jr., a man of remarkable character and boundless passion, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2025, in his hometown of Spartanburg, SC, at the age of 73. Born on November 14, 1951, to the late Christine Blackwood and Carlos Shook, Chuck was a lifelong resident of Spartanburg, where he cultivated a life filled with service, and the joy of his many animals.

Chuck's early years were shared with his sister, Lynn Shook, whose memory preceded him in passing. Despite the loss of his immediate family members, Chuck's legacy is one of resilience and the ability to find happiness in the company of his beloved pets, including his horse, a mule, and his loyal dogs. His love for animals was a testament to his compassionate and nurturing spirit.

A patriot at heart, Chuck proudly served his country as a Marine during the Vietnam War. Following his time in the Marines, he continued his dedication to service by retiring from the Army. His military career was marked by honor and commitment, traits that he carried into all aspects of his life.

Those who knew Chuck would say his stories were as captivating as they were varied, reflecting a life lived to the fullest. Chuck's interests extended beyond his military service and love for animals. He was a man who embraced life with enthusiasm and who was always ready to lend a helping hand or share a moment of kindness.

As we bid farewell to Carlos Hershel "Chuck" Shook Jr., we celebrate a life that exemplified the virtues of courage, love, and passion. He leaves behind a legacy of enduring spirit and the gentle reminder that the simplest things in life, like the companionship of animals and the joy of a good story, are often the most precious.

Chuck's journey through life was a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the power of love to transcend all. He will be remembered not only for the life he led but also for the countless ways he made the world a better place. May he rest in peace, knowing that his memory will continue to inspire and comfort those who knew him.
