Chief Petty Office, U. S. Navy retired, Mr. Carlos Yeast of Mount Juliet and a longtime resident of the Riddleton Community, died peacefully with his three children at his bedside on Saturday morning October 10, 2025 at his daughters Waters Edge Circle home and who died six days after his 89th birthday. He was pronounced deceased at 4:56 a.m. by Adoration Hospice of Nashville who had been assisting the family with his care.
David Haynes, a Gordonsville First Baptist Church Deacon who was a close friend of Mr. Yeast, will deliver the eulogy at the 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial will follow beside Mr. Yeasts' wife Mildred in the Gazebo Garden at the Dixon Springs Cemetery.
There will be Military Chapel services by American Legion Post # 57 of Carthage.
Visitation with the Yeast family will be at Sanderson in Carthage only on Tuesday October 14th from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.
Mr. Yeast was the oldest and last surviving of five children, a daughter and four sons of the late Harvey Jewel Yeast who died August 26, 1984 at the age of 70 and Ida Lee League Yeast who died February 27, 2004 at the age of 85 and was born Carlos Eugene Yeast in Harrodsburg in Mercer County, Kentucky on October 4, 1936.
The four siblings preceding him in death were Ronnie Lee Yeast who died at the age of 37 on January 18, 1984, Michael Jewel Yeast who died at the age of 46 on March 11, 1994, Larry Wayne Yeast who died at the age of 71 on September 16, 2014 and Barbara Ann Yeast Rucker who died at the age of 82 on October 31, 2020.
In Memphis on December 12, 1964, he was united in marriage to Riddleton Community native, the former Mildred Taylor Bradley, who also served with him in the United States Navy.
Following their marriage, at that time, she had to leave the Navy because married couples were not allowed to serve in the military together. Mrs. Mildred preceded Mr. Carlos in death on February 21, 2023 at the age of 91 following over fifty-nine years of marriage.
He retired from the Navy in 1978 in Mayport, Florida with twenty years of service and with four Good Conduct Medals.
He was inducted into the United States Marines in Louisville Kentucky on January of 1954 and served there for four years before rejoining and assigned to the U. S. Navy and was transferred to Millington, Tennessee and served during the Vietnam War with two of those 20 years in Japan during the Vietnam War.
Following his retirement from the Navy he was a Customer Service Representative for CSX Railroad before retiring again in 1998 in Jacksonville, Florida and returning to Tennessee.
Mr. and Mrs. Yeast had been members of Gordonsville First Baptist Church since 1998.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Lee Yeast Hill and husband Jeff of Lebanon, Vicki Yeast Howard and husband Jeff of Mount Juliet; son David Wayne Yeast and wif Roberta of White House; four grandchildren, Tony Wilson and wife Melissa of Mount Juliet, Christopher Yeast of Richmond, Kentucky, Lee Ann Mayes and husband Brandon of Frankfort, Kentucky, Taylor Wilson and wife Julie of Spring Hill; twelve greatgrandchildren and one great-great-grandchild on the way.
The Yeast family has requested memorials to Gordonsville First Baptist Church.
