Carlton Conway Childress, 84, of Forest, Virginia, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025.

He was born on November 6, 1940, to the late William Frank and Mary Crouch Childress in Lynchburg, VA, and was the loving husband to the late Gayle Aultice Childress for 64 years. Carlton graduated from E.C. Glass High School and then spent a life being a faithful provider for his family. He worked for R.R. Donnelly as an electrician for 31 years, retiring in 2002.

Carlton is survived by, Daniel Childress (Fonda) and children, Danielle Childress, and her children, Remington and Dallas Morgan, Mekayla and Bryan Bratton, Stephen Harris, Carrie and Shawn Campbell, and their children, Lila and Kade Campbell; Christopher Childress (Jean), and children, Jake Noel and Chloe Childress; and Todd Childress (Shelley), and children, Kyle and Allison Childress.

In addition to his wife, Gayle and parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Leanna Creasey, Belva Powell, Franky Childress and Denise Childress.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 18, 2025, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg with Pastor Steve Putney officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. Interment will be held at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
