Carlton Moore Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kennedy Funeral Home - Robbins on Mar. 17, 2026.
Carlton "Ray" Moore took his first breath in Heaven on March 17, 2026, passing away peacefully in his home surrounded by the family he loved so dearly.

Born on September 30, 1927, in Robbins, North Carolina, to the late Archie and Blanche Moore, Ray's life was defined by a quiet strength and an unwavering devotion to his Savior, Jesus Christ. A proud veteran of the United States Army, Ray served his country during World War II, carrying the values of discipline and integrity with him throughout his life.

Ray resided in Pleasant Garden, North Carolina, for most of his life. He was a man of strong work ethic, retiring from Burlington Industries after 40 years of dedicated service. He was a devoted member of Pleasant Garden Baptist Church and a man of steady, quiet faith. He was disciplined in his walk with the Lord, reading the Bible through in its entirety many times throughout his life.

Ray spent many hours outdoors in his garden, where he had a natural gift for tending the earth and watching things grow. When he was inside, he could usually be found in his recliner, keeping up with the Atlanta Braves. Whether they were winning or losing, watching the games was a favorite pastime that became a familiar staple in the Moore household over the years.

Ray was the beloved husband of Doris Stanley Moore, with whom he shared 68 beautiful years of marriage built on a foundation of love and mutual respect.

Ray's legacy lives on through his three children: Carlton Ray Moore Jr.; Darla Moore Mitchell and her husband, Sonny; and Joy Moore Brown and her husband, Michael.

He was a proud and loving Pawpaw who took great delight in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Karlee Mitchell; Clayton Moore and his wife, Jenica, and their two sons, Colson and Maverick; Morgan Mitchell; Madison Russell and her husband, Bobby; Carson Moore and his wife, Gina; Holden Brown and Nathan Brown.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Carson Moore, Colleen Baxter, Lucille Jones, James Moore, and Brenda Lednum. He is survived by his sister, Janelle Moore, and his brother, Rev. Edwin Moore.

Ray was a beloved brother, a loving husband, a devoted father, grandfather, and a wonderful friend. Above all, he was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ. While his family grieves his absence, they find comfort in the promise of the Resurrection and the knowledge that he is now tending gardens in the presence of his King.

Carlton "Ray" Moore's Funeral service will be held at the Smyrna Church of Robbins on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 2 p.m. The address is 203 Smyrna Church Rd, Robbins, NC 27325. Burial, with Military Honors will follow in the church cemetery.
