Obituary of Carmela Fabrizio
Carmela "Millie" Fabrizio passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at the age of 90, just shy of her 91 st birthday.
Millie's story began on October 2, 1934, in Manhattan. Millie was the daughter of Camillo Iacono and Cira Conti, who immigrated from Ischia, Italy.
Millie is now reunited with her beloved husband, Francis Fabrizio, with whom she built a beautiful life together for 40 years. It is a testament to their enduring bond that their 70th wedding anniversary would have been just one week after her passing. She is predeceased by her sisters, Catherine Iacono, Catherine Conetta, Frances DiScala, and Maria Iacono.
In September 1966, after starting her family and having her first four children in the Bronx, Millie and Frank moved to Old Bridge, New Jersey. There, she had her fifth child and made a home on Grace Drive, a place filled with great memories and wonderful neighbors. In 2003, she moved to
Freehold, New Jersey, to live with her youngest daughter, Fran, and her family.
Millie was the heart and soul of her family. She was a constant source of kindness and unwavering strength, finding joy spending time on her 3 rd iPad playing over 15,000 solitaire games and making sure she did her daily challenge. People could not believe how at 90 years old she was sharp as a tack! She enjoyed playing bingo and sharing stories of her life-from growing up in a five-room apartment on 67th Street in Manhattan to raising her kids with her cocker spaniel, "Four Paws". Her greatest joy, however, was her family, and she cherished every moment with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
After working as a secretary at Central Savings Bank in Manhattan, she dedicated many years to raising her children. She proudly returned to the workforce as the Payroll Clerk for the Saker family, working at Foodarama Supermarkets (Saker ShopRites) in Freehold for 18 years from 1984 to 2002.
At age 15, she wrote an essay at Julia Richmond High School, which shows the remarkable way she envisioned her future, a plan she brought to life with purpose and love. She wrote, "When I finish school, I want to work in an office as a typist. I want to work for about four or five years. Then if I should be going steady, I would want to marry the man. I want to get married when I am twenty-one or twenty-two years old. In the future, I want to be a good housewife. I want to live in a country home, not too far away from the city. After I get married, if I do, I will want to work for about a year or two then settle down and have children. If I do have children, I want four. This is what I want in the future. I just hope that it will come out that way."
Her memory will be treasured by her children: Vito (Catherine), Marie (Charles), Theresa (David), Camille (Vinicio), and Frances (Salvatore). She was a loving grandmother to 11 grandchildren: Jennifer, Elyse (Erik), Matthew (Melyssa), Drew (Justin), Abigail, Francisco, Alexander, Alexandria, Joseph, Christopher, and Isabella. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren, Madison and Oliver, and three more on the way. She will also be deeply missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home. 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Sunday, September 14, 2025 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her 10:30 AM Funeral Mass on Monday, September 15, 2025 at the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township.
