Carmela Tuzzolo was born in her parents' house at 136 Elton Street 9/26/28 in East New York. She was the first born child of Gussie and Charles Tuzzolo. During her years at PS 108 and Franklin K. Lane High she became a big sister to Joseph, Anthony and Marie. She was a proud career woman taking her job as secretary to the President of Burlington Mills very seriously. She was respected by her colleagues making many friends during her time there.
Leaving her parents' home and moving next door with her sister was one of her most treasured memories. She loved her independence from her parents' busy household. After Aunt Marie married, Aunt Millie continued her life as a bachelorette travelling the world and upstate resorts with great friends. Her friendship with the Burlington girls led her to a project which surprised everyone. She was one of ten women who invested in "Hi- Peak Motel" in Haines Falls NY. This hard work resulted in many weekends filled with good times. Some of the better weekends included her husband and her brothers and their wives. In 1973 Aunt Millie wed Uncle Ed. During their 33 year marriage they moved from Jamaica Estates to Mineola to be closer to her two brothers. Her younger sister's early passing left Aunt Millie with a broken heart. She never dreamed her sister who was 18 years her junior would die so young.
In her later years she enjoyed decorating her home, dinners out with her family, vacations including cruises to her favorite island Bermuda. She always brought gifts back from her various travels. We all looked forward to perfume, jewelry, scarfs, etc. upon her return.
After her husband's passing in 2006 she maintained her close relationship with her entire family. She was there for celebrations and happy and sad occasions. Her contributions to our family gatherings was her famous homemade cream cheese onion dip, sun chips and deviled eggs. Toward the end of her life after losing many loved ones she kept a positive attitude and sense of humor. She was and will forever be adored by 8 nieces and nephews as she became the Tuzzolo Family's matriarch after her Mom and Dad's passing. Her love expanded to our growing families and the memories will continue on. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Carmela, please visit our Tree Store.
