In Loving Memory of Carmelia Rocha
December 22, 1927 – October 6, 2025
With love and sorrow, we announce the peaceful passing of Carmelia Rocha, 97, in Hollister, CA.
She was born in Terceira, Azores. She was married to John Rocha for 63 years and they had three daughters. In October 1973, their family immigrated to the United States and settled in Pineville, Missouri, where she lived for 37 years. She brought with her the rich traditions of her homeland, a resilient spirit, and an unwavering devotion to her family. She spent her life as a homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her home, working in her yard, reading religious books in Portuguese, and spending time with her family.
In 2009, she and John relocated to Hollister, CA. The last six and half years she lived at the Mabie Northside Nursing Facility. She was very happy there and was friends with all the nurses and staff who often stopped by her room to visit and enjoy candy that she always had to share. Her family is truly grateful to all those who took such loving care of her in her final years. Their care was always gentle and respectful, and they brought her much laughter and joy. Their kindness will never be forgotten.
Carmelia is preceded in death by her husband John, her parents, and her sisters. She is survived by her children Frances (Joseph) Silva, Edla (Roger) Frakes, Leonor (Will) Rogers; her grandchildren Lisa, Mark, Greg, and Angela; and her great-grandchildren Bridget, Parker, Alicia, Emily, Avery, Silas, and Henry.
Visitation will be held at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home, 870 San Benito St. at 9:00am, October 16, 2025. Funeral services will be held at St. Benedict's Church on October 16, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at Calvary Cemetery, 1100 Hillcrest Rd., Hollister.
Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she loved. May she rest in peace.
