Keon, Carmella A. (Scalzo)
LATHAM - Carmella A. Keon returned to her God and maker on March 17, 2025. She was the fourth, and beloved, daughter of Antonio and Anna (Salvino) Scalzo of Coeymans, N.Y.
Educated at primary school in Coeymans, she graduated from the Vincentian Institute. Carmella resided with her parents in Coeymans, before marrying her husband, John D. Keon. She then moved to Colonie and enjoyed 45 years of happiness.
Carmella worked for the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles and retired after 32 years of service as Supervisor of the Title Bureau.
Carmella and John enjoyed traveling to Europe and the Caribbean as well as spending winters in Florida or Hawaii. She was a proficient knitter and crocheter and looked forward each year to the return of the horses at Saratoga. She played weekly Mahjong and cards with neighbors and friends. Carmella was an excellent baker and her cookies and cakes made holidays of every visit. Most of all, she enjoyed family - her nieces and nephews, their children, and those special people she adopted as family.
Carmella was a member of the Latham Woman's Club and the Colonie Senior Citizens Club and enjoyed many day trips with these friends. She was a communicant at St. Pius X Church, Loudonville, N.Y.
Carmella was predeceased by her loving husband, John; her infant brother, Joseph; and her sisters, Theresa Deluca (Anthony), Josephine Deluca (Alfred), Mary Pagano-Pape (James, Alfred) and Helen Anne Adamo (James). She is survived by seven nieces and nephews, and their children.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Rd., Loudonville, N.Y. 12211, at 10 a.m., on Saturday, March 22. The family will receive friends at the St. Pius X Chapel, on Friday, March 21, from 4-7 p.m. Interment will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Coeymans, N.Y.
