Carmen Anderson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Perry Funeral Home - Newark on Feb. 2, 2026.
Carmen Louise Anderson was born on April 25, 1958 in Coatesville, Pennsylvania to Loretta and Herbert Lindsey. She was the fourth of seven children, growing up surrounded by family, love and strong bonds that would shape her caring heart.

At just four years old, Carmen moved to Newark, New Jersey, the place she would call home for the rest of her life. It was there that her journey truly unfolded. She attended West Side High School where she met Arthur Anderson Jr., the man who would become her husband and lifelong partner. Carmen and Arthur Jr. were married on April 20, 1981 and together they built a family rooted in love and laughter. From their union came two sons, Gerard Lindsey and Arthur Lindsey, who meant everything to her.

Carmen had a heart for serving others. She worked at Mr. Davis Beauty Salon in Newark, NJ as a custodian for several years, and she was never afraid of hard work. Outside of her job, Carmen did what she loved most – cleaning houses, braiding hair, and babysitting, always helping, always giving, always caring. If someone needed something, Carmen was there.

Carmen was truly the life of the party. She had a presence that filled the room – her laughter and her energy. She loved people deeply and freely, and everyone who knew her felt that love. To know Carmen was to feel welcomed, cared for and valued.

On January 29, 2026, Carmen passed away peacefully in her home in Newark, NJ, surrounded by the love she had given so generously throughout her life. Though she is no longer with us in body, Carmen's love, laughter and spirit will live on in every life she touched.

Carmen leaves to cherish her beautiful memories her loving sons, Gerard Lindsey and Arthur Lindsey; her father, Herbert Lindsey; her sister, Cecelia Lindsey; her brother, Larry Lindsey; her sisters-in-law, Eileen Anderson, Rita Anderson, Angie Anderson, Vosina Williams, and Faith Ferguson; her brother-in-law, Danny Anderson; her beloved grandchildren, Takia Whitehead and Jamal Lindsey; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

Carmen was preceded in death by her mother, Loretta Cook-Lindsey; her husband, Arthur Anderson Jr.; her sister, Gloria Cook; and three brothers, Herbert Cook Jr., Michael Lindsey and Adam Lindsey.
