Irene J. Wall (n. Slomczewski) of Edison passed away on Tuesday evening, March 10th, 2026. She was 86 years old.
Born in
Newark, NJ to the late Tadeusz Slomczewski and Genowefa Wintczak, Irene was one of four children. After graduating from West Side High School in Newark, Irene pursued a career as a legal secretary at a law firm in Bloomfield. She married the love of her life Jimmy in 1960 and raised two daughters, Debbie and Danielle as a stay at home mom. The family was affectionately known as "the 4 Walls". Later, she returned to work for Merck Pharmaceuticals in Rahway for 10 years until her retirement.
Irene enjoyed camping, Canasta, bingo, and Scrabble in her spare time. She was a staunch activist for Edison Township and fought hard when it came to environmental issues.
She was extremely proud of her Polish heritage and was a member of the Polish Cultural Foundation in Clark NJ, of which her parents were founding members. Irene was also a truly passionate American. She wholeheartedly supported our troops by sending care packages to pen pals in the Marines.
Most importantly was her faith, as she participated in the RCIA program through St. Francis Cathedral sponsoring a young man named Jermaine Shepherd who became a member of the church (following his aunt Alice Jenkins) and both became lifelong friends.
She is predeceased by her husband, James J. Wall in 2011; both her sister, Halina Hercek and her brother, Leonard Slomczewski in 2020; and her son-in-law Joseph Czech Sr. in 2024.
Irene is survived by her daughters, Debra Czech (n. Wall) of South Plainfield, NJ and Dr. Danielle Wall of Somers Point, NJ; her grandson Joseph Czech Jr. and his spouse Jennifer of
Lebanon, NJ; and great-grandchildren Brayden and Gabriella. She also leaves sister Barbara Silva, sisters-in-law Ann Slomczewski, Frances Rudge, Elsie Kartischko, and numerous nieces and nephews. She will also be missed dearly by treasured friends Sharon Ansley and Cathy Wasner.
Services will be announced at a later date.
