Carmen Colina Espina, a cherished matriarch, and a beacon of joy, passed away on July 28, 2025, in Midland, Texas at the age of 84. Born on August 12, 1940, in Maracaibo Zulia, Venezuela, to Heli Saul Colina Urdaneta and Corina Josefina Espina de Colina, Carmen was a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and friend who touched the lives of many with her vibrant spirit and boundless affection.
Her life was one of passion and dedication, enriched by the family she adored and the simple pleasures that brought her immense happiness. Carmen's love for family was evident in the many gatherings she enthusiastically hosted, where she would revel in the company of her four children, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her enthusiasm for life was infectious, and her presence was a warm embrace to all who knew her.
Carmen's inquisitive mind found joy in the world of puzzles and games, particularly in Sudoku and crossword puzzles, which she approached with the same tenacity and resolve that she embodied in all aspects of her life. Her intellectual curiosity was also reflected in her love of television, especially the Investigation Discovery channel. She always wanted to stay up to date with who murdered who. She also enjoyed the occasional shark documentary that would come on the tv.
Her roots and cultural heritage remained at the core of her being. Carmen brought her Venezuelan zest for life wherever she went, often lightening the hearts of others with the traditional music she grew up loving. The sounds of her cultural music became the soundtrack to many memorable family gatherings, which will continue to resonate in the hearts of those she has left behind.
Though Carmen has preceded in death by her parents and numerous siblings, her legacy carries on through her children-Rafael Colina, Glexis Hernandez, Xotlil Borges, and Corina Colina-along with the many generations that followed. She will be deeply missed by all, as the love and laughter she shared will forever remain a cherished memory to those fortunate enough to have felt the warmth of her love.
Carmen Colina Espina will be remembered not just for the love she bestowed upon her family but also for her kindness, strength, and the light she brought into the world. Her passing leaves behind a resounding echo of joy and a family forever grateful to have been part of her remarkable journey. Carmen's story may have reached its final chapter, but her spirit and love will continue to inspire and guide the family she loved more than anything.
Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and condolences may be sent to the family online at acreswestfuneral.com.
