Richard "Mufasa" Ontiveroz, a cherished father, husband, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025, in his hometown of Odessa, Texas, where he was also born on August 6, 1962. Richard's life was a testament to his enduring spirit, his love for his family, and his passion for the simple joys of life.
Richard's educational journey led him to earn a bachelor's degree in computer science, which paved the way for a fulfilling career as an IT specialist in networking for the Ector County Independent School District (ECISD). His dedication to his work was matched only by his commitment to his family and his wide array of interests.
A man of many talents and hobbies, Richard was known for his love of aircrafts and his devotion to reading Bible scriptures. His insatiable curiosity drove him to learn about a multitude of subjects, and he found great pleasure in making jewelry until his vision no longer allowed him to continue with this intricate craft. Richard's culinary skills were a source of joy for his family, especially when he cooked his famous spaghetti, a dish that will be remembered and cherished.
Richard's life was characterized by laughter and his ability to lift the spirits of those around him. He was the person who could make anyone laugh and cheer them up on their worst days. His love for riddles and computer games was just a few of the ways he kept his mind sharp and his heart light. He was a confidant, a listener, someone who could be talked to every day, and he would listen with an open heart and mind.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Sarah and Lori Ontiveroz; his devoted spouse, Sylvia Fuentez; his caring sisters, Helen Ontiveroz, and Yolanda Torres; as well as his loyal service dog, Kilo. Richard is preceded in passing by his parents, Frank and Edna Ontiveroz, and his siblings, Francis Salazar, Peggy Grandland, and Tilly Sandoval.
Richard "Mufasa" Ontiveroz will be remembered as a funny, loving, and vibrant soul who brought light and laughter into the lives of all who knew him. His legacy of love, humor, and kindness will continue to live on through the memories he has left behind.
A Special thank you from the family to the DaVita Vivify Dialysis staff in their services and helping Richard with his care.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday October 17th, 2025, at Acres West Funeral Chapel in the Main Chapel at 5:30pm. Service will be officiated by Marcus Zuniga.
Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to the family at acreswestfuneral.com.
