Obituary published on Legacy.com by Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory - West Odessa on Oct. 10, 2025.
Robert David Powers, a man known for his gentle humor and unwavering respectfulness, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, in Midland, Texas. Born on September 14, 1944, in Atlus, Oklahoma, Robert's laughter and love for life left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Robert's journey began as the eleventh child of John Thomas and Claudia Fay Powers. He grew up surrounded by a large and loving family, including nieces and nephews who were older than him. His early years in Oklahoma laid the foundation for the kind-hearted and jovial man he would become.
For many years, Robert worked diligently as a truck driver in the oilfields, a job that took him all around the Permian Basin. Robert never missed a day of work until he physically could not do it anymore, he always made sure his family was taken care of.
Outside of work, Robert's passions were simple yet deeply cherished. Always a beloved presence at family gatherings, he would eagerly sit down for a game of cards, ready to share a laugh or a playful jest. His distinctive laugh was a beacon of joy that could brighten even the darkest of days. Robert was also a wrestling enthusiast, when he and the children were younger, they would all sit down together and watch Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage for hours. He was an avid pool player, competing in and sometimes winning the local pool tournaments in and around Odessa. This allowed him to form lasting friendships. Though he enjoyed showing off his trophies, his colleagues will remember him as a man who could lighten the mood of any room with his infectious laughter and never-ending supply of jokes.
Robert's legacy is carried on by his loving children: Mike Alan Powers, John Paul Powers of Kermit, TX, Tina Marie (Powers) Burrows and husband Dustin Burrows of Mentone, TX, as well as his only surviving sibling, Chester Raymond Powers and wife Vera of Duncan, OK. He was also a proud grandfather to four grandchildren: Shaun Logan Burrows, Kiara Damia Lynn Powers, Michael Cadyn Kayser, and Jonathan November Jackson Powers.
Those who knew Robert will remember a man who was never heard uttering a curse or speaking ill of others. His respectful nature was a testament to his character, and his ability to find humor in life's everyday moments was a gift to all who had the pleasure of his company.
As we bid farewell to Robert David Powers, we celebrate a life lived with laughter, love, and an unwavering commitment to family and friends. His memory will continue to inspire smiles and kindness in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
A funeral service will be held Monday, October 13, 2025, at 3pm, in the main chapel at Acres West Funeral Chapel.
