LANCASTER, SC ~ Mrs. Nellie Ruth Threatt Powers, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the age of 97. She was born on May 28 1928, in Lancaster, SC, the daughter of the late Jesse James Threatt and the late Alice Wright Threatt and was the wife of the late Boyce “Fed” Powers.

Mrs. Nellie had a special gift for sewing and took great pride in making quilts by hand. Among her many creations were her beloved quilts and yoyos, each one stitched with patience and care. She also found joy in gardening and canning.

Above all else, Mrs. Nellie loved caring for and taking care of her children. Her family was the center of her world, and she especially cherished the time spent with her grandchildren, creating memories filled with warmth, laughter, and love. In her younger years, she enjoyed fishing, finding peace and happiness outdoors.

Her kindness, dedication, and nurturing spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy lives on through her family, the quilts she lovingly made, and the countless ways she showed her love through simple, meaningful acts.

Mrs. Nellie is survived by her son, James Powers; her three daughters, Dorothy Huffstickler, Beverly Hunter (Roger), and Barbara Gail Stevens (Jimmy); her grandchildren, Donny Huffstickler, James W. “Pot” Powers, Jennifer Hunter, Shannon Powers, Randall Powers, Heather Snipes, Jimmy G. Stevens; her great-grandchildren, Kimberly Powers Watkins, Kasey Powers, Zachary Hunter, Kayson Baker, Cannon Powers, Mary Powers, Logan Powers, Raylee Snipes, Jase Snipes, Kallie Snipes, three great-great-grandchildren, Ryder Watkins, Kiela Thompson, and Jensen Hegler; her two siblings, Wayne Threatt, and Myrtis Carter; her son in law, Danny Flynn; and many special family members and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Fed Powers; her daughter, Charlona Powers Flynn; her two sons, William “Ji” Eugene Powers, and Carl T. Powers; her grandson, Travis D. Powers; her great-grandson, Kolt D. Powers; her daughter-in-law, Jackie Powers; her son-in-law, Jerry Huffstickler; her parents, Jesse and Alice Threatt; and several brothers and sisters.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Nellie will be at 11:00am on Friday, January 23, 2026 at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Buddy Thomas. Burial will follow at High Point Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10:00am to 11:00am, one hour prior to the service at Burgess Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Heart of Hospice, 901 West Meeting Street, Suite 104, Lancaster, SC 29720.
