Stephen Boyd Carey, a man of unwavering faith and boundless love, was called to his heavenly home on January 11, 2026, having been born into this world on October 27, 1968, in
Odessa, Texas. His life's journey began and concluded in the town he cherished, surrounded by the community and landscapes he adored.
Stephen's departure was preceded by his loving family members, his father David J. Carey, his mother Mae Pearl Carey, and his brother John Colins Carey. Stephen's legacy is carried on through his beloved son, Brandon Boyd Carey; his stepdaughter, Brianna Denise Burgess, and his two grandsons, Shakur and Shai. His sister, Gwen (James) Hearnes and sister, Kim (Kip) Courville. Nieces, Holly Flora, Nicole (John) Caldemyer and Jennifer (Dustin) O'Neal. A nephew, Jonathan (Felicia) Courville, and a host of great nieces and nephews.
A proud graduate of Odessa High School, Stephen's commitment to his nation was evident through his honorable service in the United States Army. His dedication to service continued in his civilian life as he cultivated beauty and serenity in his community through his work in landscaping. Stephen's hands, which once held the tools of defense, tenderly cared for the earth, nurturing growth and life.
A man of profound Christian faith, Stephen's life was a testament to the grace and mercy of God. He sought to embody the love of Christ in every aspect of his life, drawing ever closer to God through his daily walk and the fellowship of his church community. His passion for sports was matched only by his love for cooking, where he delighted in creating meals that brought friends and family together in fellowship and joy.
To describe Stephen as faith-filled, funny, and loving would capture the essence of a man whose laughter was infectious, whose smile could light up a room, and whose heart was ever open to giving and receiving love. His unwavering faith anchored him through life's storms, and his sense of humor brought comfort and happiness to those around him.
Stephen Boyd Carey's journey on earth may have reached its sunset, but the warmth of his spirit remains a guiding light for all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we celebrate his life and cherish the memories he leaves behind, we take solace in the promise of eternal life and the knowledge that we will one day be reunited in the presence of our Lord and Savior. Until then, Stephen's love will continue to inspire us, his faith will strengthen us, and his memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those he loved.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 31st, 10am at Westwood Baptist Church, (Pathways Baptist Church 1601 W University Blvd,
