Carmen Papa Dela Cruz May 1, 1952 – November 16, 2025
Carmen Papa Dela Cruz, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025, in Olympia, Washington. Born on May 1, 1952, in Manila, Philippines, Carmen was the cherished daughter of Clemente and Maxima Papa. She lived a life rooted in devotion, generosity, and love-values she carried with her from her early years in Manila to her later life in Chicago, Illinois, and Olympia, Washington.
Carmen earned her Bachelor's degree in Commerce from the University of the East in Manila, a foundation that helped shape her remarkable work ethic and dedication. On July 3, 1981, she married the love of her life, Ludivino "Ludy" Dela Cruz, in San Antonio, Nueva Ecija, Philippines. Together they built a partnership defined by unwavering loyalty and an unbreakable bond. Carmen and Ludy were inseparable-always side by side, supporting one another in every chapter of life.
Throughout her career, Carmen made meaningful contributions wherever she worked. She began at the Mabini Mansion Hotel before serving as a switchboard operator for Galang Medical Center. She later became an administrative officer for Consunji Construction Co., a secretary for Norwegian Medical Center, and an admissions officer and billing specialist for Rush North Shore Medical Center. Eventually, she fulfilled one of her greatest callings as owner and operator of the Dela Cruz Adult Family Home, where she cared for others with compassion, dignity, and heartfelt dedication.
Carmen's life was filled with passions that brought joy to those around her. She was an exceptional cook who delighted in preparing meals for her loved ones-happily spending entire days in the kitchen to nourish and comfort her family. An avid dancer and she carried that same grace into every aspect of her life. She was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, known for her deep faith and her nightly prayers, rosary in hand. Her spirituality was a constant source of strength for her family.
Above all, Carmen was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She poured her entire heart into her sons-Jeffrey, Jerico, and Jaybe-supporting them with unconditional love and boundless strength. Becoming a grandmother brought her tremendous pride and joy; she never missed an opportunity to shower her grandchildren-Landon, Brayden, Mikaela Ellie, and Ezekiel Jericho Edon-with hugs, kisses, and warmth. She also shared a lifelong, unbreakable bond with her sisters, and her presence will forever be felt in the loving family she helped shape.
Carmen is survived by her husband, Ludivino Dela Cruz; her sons Jeffrey (46), Jerico (45), and Jaybe (37); her sisters Leticia Papa Atienza and Nelia Papa Galardo; and her four beloved grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Clemente and Maxima Papa, her sister Teresita Papa Gosom and her brothers, Laureano Papa and Clemente Papa Jr.
Carmen leaves behind a legacy of faith, compassion, and selfless love. Her gentle presence, warm smile, and generous heart will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
