Carmen Delia Gomez-Villanueva, a beloved resident of La Junta, Colorado, passed away peacefully on
Monday, November 17, 2025, at the Bluestem Village Nursing Home in La Junta.
Born on February 12, 1945 in Puerto Rico to Francisca and Bonifacio Gomez, she was 80 years of age. Carmen spent her early years on the island before moving to the United States in 1969. She dedicated much of her life to caring for others as a Certified Nurse Aid in California, embodying compassion and selflessness throughout her career.
Carmen's love for her family was evident in everything she did. She is survived by her children: Norberto (Lisa E.) Villanueva, Jr. of La Junta; Jose L. Villanueva of Nevada; Frankie (Melissa) Villanueva of New York; Delia E. Villanueva of Las Vegas; and Jennie Rivera of Carolina, PR. She was also a cherished grandmother to thirteen grandchildren and a great-grandmother to six. Her sister, Hilda Soto of Kissimmee, Florida, brother, Daniel Gomez of Puerto Rico, also survive her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norberto Villanueva, Sr., and her parents, Francisca and Bonifacio Gomez.
Carmen was known for her passion for dancing, especially to Salsa music, and her exceptional skills in the kitchen as she was an excellent cook. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who brought joy and warmth to those around her. Her kindness, vibrant spirit, and dedication to her family and work will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
