Carmen Nieting Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Harder Funeral Home - Brookfield on Jan. 27, 2023.
Carmen Nieting (née Wegener) was born on Palm Sunday (April 9) 1922 in the Lutheran parsonage of St John's, Culbertson, Nebraska. Her father, the Rev. Arthur F. Wegener was delivering the sermon while his wife, Magdalene, was giving birth to their first daughter. Carmen had a sister, Iris, and a brother, Ralph, both of whom pre deceased her.
Carmen attended Concordia Teachers College, Seward, Nebraska, where she met her husband to be, Robert (Bob) Nieting. Her first teaching placement was in New York City, as was his. Married on Dec. 27, 1944, they soon moved to Marengo, Illinois, where Bob was the Principal of Zion Lutheran School. Son Mark was born there in 1948 and daughter Lesley (Westervelt) in 1951. After a year in Minneapolis, she and Bob settled in Elm Grove, Wisconsin, where she taught "as needed" at Elm Grove Lutheran School. Daughter Alicia (Bietz) was born in 1963.
Her real joys were teaching piano lessons, as she did for literally hundreds of students, singing in choir, and cultivating her flower gardens. She and Bob traveled far and wide over the years and after retiring they purchased a home in Wauwatosa. Bob preceded her in death in 2014. Turning 100 last April 9, she soon came to live with daughter Alicia and Michael Bietz in Menomonee Falls until the Lord Jesus called her home on January 25.
Carmen leaves behind a son, The Rev Mark Nieting (Pam), and daughters Lesley (David) Westervelt and Alicia (Mike) Bietz, grandchildren Ben Nieting, Reba Robinson, Adam Nieting, Shanna Burns, Erik Bietz, Nick Bietz and Ethan Bietz as well as great grandchildren Alexus Larsen, Kaylee and Karina Nieting and Brooks and Stone Robinson.
Visitation Monday, January 30 at Elm Grove Lutheran Church, 945 Terrace Drive, Elm Grove from 9 AM until time of Funeral Service at 10:30 AM. Interment Highland Memorial Park. Memorials to the Robert E. Nieting foundation or lwml appreciated.
