Carol Lynn Barnes of Chapin, SC passed away peacefully at home on March 27, 2026, at the age of 70.

Born October 30, 1955, in Herkimer, New York was the daughter of the late James and Evelyn Charles. After graduating from Mohawk High School, Carol attended Herkimer Community College and Oneonta State College where she received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in education. She was a passionate and dedicated educator in both New York and South Carolina where she retired in 2015 from Richland County School District Two. Her dedication of over 30 years of teaching touched countless lives.

Married on May 7, 1982, in Herkimer, New York, Carol became the cherished wife of Gary Barnes with whom she shared many memorable years. Carol enjoyed taking long walks with Jake, her four-legged friend, playing tennis, golf and bike riding in the Florida sun. Never bored, Carol could always enjoy a relaxing day at Fort Myers Beach with a good book in hand, a special place where she spent many winters. She brought joy to others through her beautifully knit items for those she loved, one-of-a-kind crafts, and baking cookies for everyone in the neighborhood during the holidays. Carol lived a life marked by dedication, compassion, and love of family and friends.

Carol truly had a kind heart and giving nature. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Carol leaves behind her loving husband Gary, daughters Sara (John) Holt and Alexa (Austin) Tothacer and granddaughters, Sage and Rory Tothacer.

We would like to thank Lutheran Hospice for all their service and dedication during this difficult time.

Respecting Carol's wishes, there will be no public service. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family.
